The Jurys Inn hotel is the gateway to the unique Prague district called Karlín, which stretches from Libeň in the east, Vítkov hill in the south, the main highway in the west and the Vltava River in the north. It was founded on the “Špitálské pole” in the early 19th century, when the Invalidovna building, unfortunately decaying now, stood here. Shortly thereafter, the district was split by the unique Negrelli Viaduct and it became a part of the capital in 1922.
The transformation of Karlín into a pleasant place for walks, seating in cafes, and other leisure activities occurred mainly during its renewal after the devastating flood of 2002. Other Karlín attractions include:
Church of St. Cyril and Methodius,
Popular Music Theatre in Karlín,
cultural area of Forum Karlín,
multi-purpose project called River City,
You can take the pedestrian tunnel to walk to Žižkov beneath the Vítkov hill.
You just need to walk out of the Jurys Inn hotel area and within a few minutes you will find a number of interesting places in its surroundings. Just behind the metro station, you will find the Museum of the City of Prague and a short walk from there, there is the Karlín Music Theatre. If you go to the Na Poříčí Street, you cannot miss the traditional Bílá labuť (White Swan) shopping centre, or the modern shopping arcade called Florentinum. After a few minutes you will reach the Square of Republic, with its dominant features, the Kotva and Paladium shopping galleries, the Hybern House and the magnificent Municipal House in the Art Nouveau style.
The famous Negrelli Viaduct is literally in sight of the hotel. In the north, after crossing the Rohan embankment and one arm of the Vltava River, the bridge reaches the Štvanice Island, with a park and tennis courts. You can easily get there walking over the Hlávka Bridge.
